OICC celebrates birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi in London’s Parliament Square

LONDON Oct 5: The 152nd birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi was celebrated with great pomp and ceremony by OICC UK in front of the statue of Mahatma Gandhi in Parliament Square.

At 9.45 am, OICC leaders along with Indian High Commissioner, Navy, Army and Air Force chiefs laid wreaths in front of the Gandhi statue which was followed with the recital of Vande Mataram.

OICC UK President KK Mohandas presided over the event, which was attended by hundreds of activists and the chief guest during the occasion was Councilor Sunil Chopra, a former Congress leader and Deputy Mayor of Southwark.

Program Coordinator Appa Gafoor welcomed the various Congress Youth Congress student union activists from across the UK, including dignitaries.

Councilor Sunil Chopra, former Congress leader and deputy mayor of South wark, delivered the keynote address.

Councillors Philip Abraham, Tom Aditya, ex-councillor Jose Alexander addressed the gathering.

OICC UK President then delivered a keynote address and distributed a biography of Mahatma Gandhi to children to help the next generation understand and learn about Mahatma Gandhi.

Vice President Suju Daniel addressed the various student union representatives from various universities in the UK.

Vice President Joshi Jose proposed the vote of thanks.

OICC UK leaders K K Mohandas, Alsahar Ali, Joshi Jose, Suju Daniel, Noichen Augustine, Shaji Anand, Appa Gafoor, Beena Mathew, Makesh Kumar, Prasad Kochuvila, Philip Abraham, Jayan Ran, Sunil Ravindran, Saju Antony Lukose, Sunny Lucas led the way.

The event concluded with the singing of the national anthem, distribution of laddu to all the participants and refreshments.
