Labour will be hoping to wrestle the seat back from the Conservatives after winning the previous seven elections in Barrow.

It was veteran political journalist Michael Crick who put forward Manju Shahul-Hameed’s name.

It will now be up to members of the local branch to select who they want to represent Labour.

The current UK parliament will automatically dissolve on Tuesday 17 December 2024, unless it has been dissolved sooner by the King. The next UK general election is scheduled to be held no later than 24 January 2025.

The latest polls suggest Labour could win a landslide victory in the next general election.
