Kidnapping of child in Kollam; Police investigating financial transactions by OET exam fraud gang

KOLLAM Dec 1: The investigation into the kidnapping of a six-year-old girl from Oyoor, which shocked Kerala, has finally returned to the family. According to the police, financial transactions worth lakhs of rupees were behind the incident and that the child was abducted by the OET exam fraud gang. The investigation revolves around a financial transaction in conducting exams for a foreign nursing job.

The statement of the child’s father Reji will be taken again in the case. A special police team had inspected the flat in Pathanamthitta city where the child’s father was staying yesterday.

The child’s father, Reji, is an employee of a private hospital here. Reji has been working in a private hospital in Pathanamthitta city for the past 10 years. Reji used to live in a flat near here. The police reached the building yesterday evening and inspected it. There was a phone in this flat that Reji was using. That’s what the police took away.

The police are trying to clarify the doubts and contradictions that emerged as part of the investigation. The investigating team will also get the details from Reji’s phone which was taken into custody.

The police have received specific clues that a dispute over the leak of question papers of the OET exam was the reason behind the incident.

OET is an exam conducted all over the world. This happens at different times in many countries. In Kerala, the exam will be held in the same question paper three hours after the exam slated to be held in the Gulf.

According to the police, there are groups that organise the question papers of the exam in the Gulf and hand it over to those appearing for the exams in Kerala. The fraudsters are charging Rs 3-4 lakh from the candidates for the answer key.

The police investigation into the abduction of the child is currently focusing on the feud between two such gangs of fraudsters. The police are also examining the role of the United Nursing Association in this regard. Jasmin Shah came out against the police yesterday after receiving a clear information about the matter.

Meanwhile, it is suspected that one of the women in the gang is a nursing caretaker. The police received a tip-off that the woman was the victim of the recruitment scam. Based on the document released yesterday, the investigation reached the woman, who is a nursing caretaker.

One person is currently in custody in the Oyoor kidnapping case. A native of Chirakkara is in custody. It is suspected that he rented the car. The youth was taken into custody yesterday. There are contradictions in his statement. He is currently in police custody. Details of the person in custody are yet to come out.
