Caught On Camera: Air India flight from Delhi to London Gatwick experience water leak (Video)

LONDON Nov 30: A water leak occurred in the cabin of an Air India 787 Dreamliner mid-flight from Delhi to London Gatwick Airport (LGW) in India on November 29. Passengers were shocked as they found themselves under dripping water on their way to London.

A video that has gone viral on social media shows water leaking through the flight’s overhead bins. The video was shared by a man who goes by the name @baldwhiner on X. The video showed how water kept dripping through the overhead bins onto the seats of passengers.

Cabin leaks, though rare, can be caused by various factors, with condensation often being the primary culprit. Condensation occurs when the temperature difference between the aircraft’s interior and the external atmosphere is significant, leading to moisture buildup. This accumulated moisture can eventually form water droplets, resulting in leaks within the cabin.

While airlines typically have protocols in place to manage such situations, they can understandably cause alarm among passengers. In the case of the Air India incident, crew members were seen working diligently to address the situation, diverting attention from the passengers’ concerns and ensuring their safety.

The footage was posted by an individual using the handle @baldwhiner on X, showcasing continuous water dripping from overhead bins onto passengers’ seats.

The post has garnered numerous comments.

One user wrote, “Perhaps some passengers left fully filled water bottles in their cabin luggage, possibly causing this. That’s why they advise us to keep water bottles with us. It might not solely be the company’s fault.”

Another inquired, “In situations like this, can passengers request a refund?”

Air India, India’s national carrier, is once again under scrutiny following a mid-flight water leak on a flight from Amritsar to London. This incident, along with a series of previous safety and service lapses, has raised concerns about the airline’s commitment to passenger safety and operational efficiency.

The recent water leak incident, which saw water dripping from the overhead compartments, caused alarm among passengers and prompted questions about the maintenance of Air India’s fleet. This incident is reminiscent of a previous incident in 2018 when a door on an Air India plane was not properly secured, forcing the flight to make an emergency landing.

These incidents, coupled with reports of passengers discovering a rat on board an Air India plane in 2021, have raised questions about the airline’s hygiene standards and overall quality of service. Such incidents can erode passenger confidence and damage an airline’s reputation.
