N. Ireland and France closes schools and colleges: Online Petition started to request UK govt to close schools and colleges

LONDON March 13: Northern Ireland’s schools and colleges will not close at this stage, the first and deputy first ministers have said. Earlier the Republic of Ireland’s government said it would shut educational institutions and ban mass gatherings.

But on Thursday evening following a high-level emergency summit First Minister Arlene Foster said NI would follow scientific advice.

France will close all of its schools from Monday amid the coronavirus outbreak. Emmanuel Macron announced the decision to shut down education facilities this evening.
The French president described it as “one of the most serious health crises France has ever faced”.  He also urged employers to let staff work from home and said that the elderly and people with health conditions should stay indoors.
However, the UK Government has insisted schools should stay open amid the coronavirus outbreak as some teachers have reportedly been told to prepare month-long home-learning packs.
As the coronavirus outbreak was declared a pandemic by the World Health Organisation and the UK outbreak continues to grow, the Department of Education (DoE) said their advice for schools is to remain open, unless they are advised otherwise.
Meanwhile a petition has started to request the government to close Schools/Colleges down for an appropriate amount of time amidst COVID19.
The petition read “We would like the government to at least consider closing schools/colleges down in the coming weeks or as soon as possible, in addition to taking necessary actions to prevent further spread”.
“We would like the Government or Parliament to enforce this action due to the growing fear among parents and students that attend school. The ability to focus or concentrate is affected in addition to the growing fears of the Corona-virus.
In our view, the government and health officials around the world are more ‘reactive’ rather than ‘proactive’. This will result in more spread as time is given for the virus to do so.
We hope to come to an agreement as soon as possible in a timely manner.
