Kent Gears Up for Its Biggest Ever Cricket Carnival on May 24 & 25: Day Out For Kids And Families

GILLINGHAM (Kent) May 17: Cricket lovers across the UK are gearing up for one of the most exciting sporting and community events of the year as the 6th Saji Memorial Cricket Tournament 2026 returns to Kent on Sunday, May 24 and Bank Holiday Monday, May 25.

Organised by Gillingham Warriors, the much-loved annual tournament will be held at the beautiful Upchurch Cricket Club, Holywell Lane, Upchurch, Sittingbourne ME9 7HN.

Over the years, the Saji Memorial Tournament has become far more than just a cricket competition. It has evolved into a vibrant celebration of sport, friendship, family togetherness and Kerala culture — attracting hundreds of Malayali cricket enthusiasts and families from across the UK.

This year promises to be the biggest edition yet, with 14 teams from different parts of the country battling it out in thrilling matches across two grounds simultaneously. The tournament atmosphere will be packed with excitement, entertainment and community spirit throughout the weekend.

The winning team will lift the prestigious Saji Memorial Trophy along with a cash prize of £1000, while the runners-up will receive £451 and a trophy. Individual awards including Best Batsman, Best Bowler and Player of the Tournament will add to the excitement.

Visitors can also enjoy a delicious Kerala food festival throughout both days, with mouthwatering dishes served by Pathiri Restaurant. Traditional flavours, lively music and a family-friendly atmosphere promise a memorable Bank Holiday outing for adults and children alike.

The tournament is proudly sponsored by Pathiri Restaurant and Idealistic Mortgage and Insurance.

The event is held in loving memory of Saji Jacob, a passionate cricketer based in Gillingham, Kent, who sadly passed away unexpectedly in 2021. Since then, Gillingham Warriors have organised this annual tournament to celebrate Saji’s love for cricket and to bring the community together in his memory.

The venue, Upchurch Cricket Club, offers two adjacent cricket grounds, a spacious two-storey pavilion, a fully stocked bar, ample outdoor seating and large parking facilities — making it an ideal venue for families, children and cricket fans to relax and enjoy the Bank Holiday weekend.
