MP Shashi Tharoor draws flak for posting picture titled Lok Sabha is “attractive place” to work

NEW DELHI Nov 29: Congress MP Shashi Tharoor has been criticised by social media users for his recent Twitter post today, 29 November. The politician had posted a photo with six female MP, writing “Who says the Lok Sabha isn’t an attractive place to work?”

In his post that has now gone viral, Tharoor posed in a selfie with Baramati MP Supriya Sule, Patiala MP Preneet Kaur, South Chennai MP Thamizhachi Thangapandian, Jadavpur MP Mimi Chakraborty, Basirhat MP Nushrat Jahan, Karur MP S Jothimani.

However, after posting the picture, Shashi Tharoor has found himself at the receiving end of criticisms. The parliamentarian was mercilessly trolled and some claimed that his tweet was “sexist” and “disrespectful”.

Hitting out at Tharoor, National Commission for Women chairperson Rekha Sharma said, “you are demeaning their contribution in parliament and politics by making them an object of attraction. Stop objectifying women in parliament.

Accused of sexism, the Congress MP clarified that it was the initiative of the women MPs in the photo and they, as Tharoor said, asked Tharoor to tweet about the photo. “I am sorry some people are offended but I was happy to be roped in to this show of workplace camaraderie. That’s all this is,” the Thiruvananthapuram MP tweeted.
