MAUK charity funds to provide clean drinking water for over 40 families in Kerala

LONDON Feb 2: Malayalee Association of the UK (MAUK), whose efforts to relieve the burden of those caught up in the floods in Kerala last August even caught the attention of BBC and was reported in their evening news.

From arranging the collection and distribution of emergency non perishable items during the initial days to raising funds to rebuild Kerala, MAUK paved the way in taking a proactive response to this devastating disaster from the UK.
Having given clear mandate from both donors and members alike, to only engage in projects that MAUK can monitor directly, MAUK joined arms with Kerala Vision- a leading and reputable media company in Kerala – to assist communities where infrastructure was severely damaged or destroyed.
Based on the feedback from Kerala Vision staff scattered across Kerala, MAUK decided to undertake construction of a number of water treatment plants in remote villages.
While MAUK will provide the financial assistance, volunteers of Kerala Vision will oversee the day-to-day aspects of the construction. Once completed, the plant will be handed over to the local Panchayath Office to manage and maintain.
Construction of the first plant has started in the remote village of Monkombu in Kuttanad region of Alapuzha district. There is no road access to the village and even construction materials are transported by boat.
“We salute the resolute of our volunteers on the ground, our partner organisation and the local people in getting this plant up and running as soon as possible. The completion of the plant is expected before mid February”, said a press note.
If you wish to make a contribution towards MAUK’s projects in Kerala please do so through our bank account (a/c no. 43074200, sort code 60-07-18) with the reference KERALA followed by your name. If you have any further queries, please email info@mauk.org or call on +44 7809 295200.
Three days following the Floods, MAUK launched a fundraising appeal through Charities Trust fundraising platform – sponsorme.com.
Through this page, MAUK raised £16,489 from 241 donors and £3552 through gift aid. In addition, 11 year old Ryan Kunnummal from Birmingham also raised over £650 through his sponsorme page.
MAUK changed the Onam celebrations in 2018 into a fundraising event and have raised in the region of £10,000 from 217 donations received for this event.
