Cold spell to make way for mini winter heatwave as Met Office predicts temperatures rising to 15C

LONDON Jan 30: The bitter cold snap is coming to an end this week and is expected to be replaced by a mini winter heatwave, as a tropical maritime airmass travels across the UK.
Temperatures are expected to reach 15ºC in parts of the country, marking a dramatic change from the freezing temperatures, heavy rain and snowstorms experienced across the country over the past few days.

Friday is set to be the mildest day, with the mercury hitting double digits across most of the country, and several degrees above average for this time of year.

Temperatures in mid-teens

A Met Office spokesperson told i: “Over the next few days a tropical maritime airmass will arrive across the UK brought by south-westerly winds, this bringing milder temperatures than we’ve seen so far this week with highs of around 11-14 Celsius for most places.”

The North-West, Scotland, and Northern Ireland will be subjected to fairly persistent rain through Thursday, which should start to clear into the evening.
