UK Indian diaspora raises over £2 million to help India fight Covid but NO efforts from Keralites in UK

LONDON May 5: The UK Indian diaspora raised more than £2 million within hours to help India win its deadly Covid-19 battle. Taking a look at the campaigns begun by the Indian community there isn’t one organisation in the UK that has begun a campaign to help India.

This website took a look at the campaigns ongoing in the UK within the Indian and Keralite community. The below list of organisations doesn’t feature any from Kerala.

A GoFundMe appeal set up by Amit Kachroo and four others to supply India with oxygen concentrators titled “O2 Concentrators for India” had already reached £495,010 as of today.

The British Asian Trust’s Oxygen for India Emergency Appeal has raised £1,758,958 to help the people of India with the devastating impact of COVID-19

BAPIO in collaboration with Doctors Association UK (DAUK), Apna NHS and Akshay Patra have raised £128,437 as of today.

BAPIO is working closely with the High Commission of India, London and various NHS organisations to ensure that we are able to assist in this time of need.

The BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Mandir in London, known as the Neasden temple, has also launched an international emergency appeal campaign to support their relief efforts across India -which have so far included the building of a makeshift hospital in Atladara, district of Vadodara.

The Akshaya Patra Foundation UK is also collecting funds to help the needy in India. They are aiming to collect £35,000.

Various other Indian community groups too have rushed to send help back home, from charity appeals to sending oxygen equipment, to doctors providing practical support to colleagues online. However, there is no collective efforts been seen from any Keralite organisation in the UK.
