Keralite student bags prestigious STEM Scholarship worth £55,000 at Manchester University

LONDON Aug 17: A Keralite student has bagged the prestigious British Council’s STEM Scholarship worth £55,000 (Rs 55 lakh).

Megha Manoj was awarded the scholarship to pursue a master’s degree in medical and molecular virology at the University of Manchester in the UK.

Megha, who completed her BSc Bioinformatics at Sree Ramachandra Medical Institute in Porur, is the daughter of Chennai based G Manoj who works for MRF and Jalaja, natives of Oachira in Kollam.

The British Council scholarships for women in STEM offer women graduates a life-changing opportunity to undertake a Master’s degree or Early Academic Fellowship in the UK.

What does the scholarship covers?
Tuition fees, a monthly stipend at the rate of £1,236 per month (for up to 12 months) to cover living costs, including accommodation, where applicable, accompanying child allowance for scholars consistent with UK visa requirements, IELTS exam fee (for scholars without a valid test of English), return economy-class travel from home country to the UK;
study-related costs, such as essential travel, materials, equipment, thesis printing, visa and insurance/NHS surcharge costs, other costs (such as heavy baggage allowance)

What are Women in STEM scholarships?
Women in STEM scholarships offer women researchers from eligible countries the chance to continue their studies in STEM with a one-year, fully funded scholarship to complete a master’s degree at a UK university.

When is the next round?
The next round of Women in STEM scholarships for the 2024-25 academic year will be open for applications in early 2024. If you are a successful applicant for the 2023-2024 academic year, and are yet to hear from your host university, please check the university website and liaise with their administration team.
