Double-jabbed travellers may no longer have to take PCR Covid tests when returning to UK

LONDON Sept 12: Double-jabbed travellers will no longer have to take expensive PCR Covid tests when returning to the UK, the Government is set to announce as per news reports in The Telegraph and Daily Mail.

Daily Mail news report says that officials are working towards scrapping the requirement for green and amber list countries before the half-term holidays next month, providing a huge boost for millions of holidaymakers and the beleaguered travel industry.

Travellers will no longer need Covid tests before leaving for Britain, while the unpopular PCR tests currently required on the second day after arrival will be replaced by cheaper lateral flow tests.

Reports also suggest the three-tier system will be replaced with two travel lists, with amber and green categories merging into one green list, while arrivals from red destinations must still quarantine in hotels.

The government review, which will be completed by Department for Transport by 1 October, aims to make international travel more affordable and simplify the process of going abroad.

Decisions on traffic light system are kept under regular review and are informed by the latest risk assessment from the Joint Biosecurity Centre and wider public health factors.

The next formal checkpoint review will take place by 1 October 2021.
