LONDON June 2: Hilary D’Cruz, who is from East London and a native of Puthenthope in Thiruvananthapuram passed away on 23rd May. His funeral was held on 1st June 2023.

Hilary D’Cruz was an active member of MAUK since 1984. He joined the management community as a committee member and later as a Trustee. His contribution during the fundraising for Kerala House and its maintenance was immense and inspirational.

The loss of this great community worker has deeply saddened the MAUK fraternity.

Malayalee Association of UK will be holding a condolence meeting to pay tributes to one of their dear member and a selfless community member at Kerala House, 671 Romford Road London E12 5AD from 5pm on June 4, 2023

Speaking to this website Sreejith Sreedharan reflected on Hilary D’Cruz’s association with MAUK.

“Having our own place, where Malayalees can meet and socialise was a dream of Hilary uncle and his fellow committee members. So in 1986, when Newham council offered £72K to purchase a centre for the Malayalee community, Hilary uncle and the rest of the team, under the leadership of Sachi Pillai took up the challenge of raising the 10% funds that we had to contribute.

“Against the odds, they worked extremely hard within a tight timeframe to raise the remaining 10% from the few hundred families settled in the U.K. at that time. As a result we now have Kerala House in Manor Park, London which is known as ‘the home of British Malayalees’

“After we bought the property Hilary Uncle spent weeks and months renovating the place making it adorning for the community to use. I still remember uncle painting the walls when I first visited Kerala House. He was a selfless community worker and a great asset to MAUK”
