Indian-origin surgeon in UK conferred Honorary Life Membership from Obesity Surgery Society of India

LONDON March 1: In recognition of his remarkable contributions to leadership, teaching, training, and advancing care for individuals living with severe and complex obesity, UK-based Indian-origin Consultant Surgeon, Dr. Vinod Menon, has been conferred with an Honorary Life Membership by the Obesity Surgery Society of India (OSSI).

The prestigious award was presented by legendary cricketer Sachin Tendulkar at the IFSO-APC & OSSI Congress 2025, held at the Jio Convention Centre in Mumbai from February 20-22, 2025.

Dr. Menon, an esteemed laparoscopic upper gastrointestinal and obesity surgeon, as well as a cancer specialist practicing in Coventry, Warwickshire, and Leamington Spa,  became the first non-white person to hold the positions of Treasurer, Secretary, and President of the British Obesity & Metabolic Surgery Society (BOMSS).

His tenure as president at BOMSS saw the initiation of a joint collaboration with the Obesity Surgery Society of India (OSSI), enabling the exchange of knowledge, guidelines, care pathways, and research between the two societies. Overseas fellowships for trainees in both directions have also been established.

This prestigious honor reflects Dr. Menon’s unwavering dedication to improving the lives of those affected by obesity and fostering international collaboration within the medical community. As a highly experienced professional in his field, Dr. Menon’s contributions continue to inspire and shape the future of obesity treatment and prevention, both in the UK and India.
