The trip is designed to “develop workforce relationships” between Kerala government and the NHS in order to fill the vacancies that has arisen within the NHS’ healthcare sector.

The team will explore the expertise Kerala healthcare sector can provide to the outside world and tap into those resources ethically.

The high-level delegation’s arrival is prior to the Norka UK Career Fair’s second edition which will take place on May 4, 5, 6 in Ernakulam.

The team is led by Dave Howarth, Head International Workforce at Department of Health and Social Care; Dr Nigel Wells, Executive Director of Clinical and Professional at Humber and North Yorkshire Integrated Care Board.

The team is in Kerala mainly to learn about the medical and nursing sectors and the mental health scenario in the state.

They will also hold discussions with senior officials of the Health and Labour departments.

The team will be in Kerala for three days and overrsee the recruitment process by NORKA and carry out meetings and studies in regards to facilitation of further enhancements in the overseas recruitment to the healthcare sector.

The delegation said job aspirants from Kerala would get special consideration throughout the recruitment journey and relocation once recruited.

The delegation is a collaboration between the West Yorkshire Integrated Care System (WY ICS) and Health Education England (HEE), a subsect of the Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC).

Amid a widespread staffing crisis across the UK’s care sector, providers around the country have been increasingly reliant on international workers in recent years, particularly as British natives choose better-paid jobs at chain restaurants and supermarkets over care jobs.
