LONDON April 17: Human beings experience episodes of psychosis at some point of their lives. It is important to understand when its happening to you and then dissect it from reality.

In medical terms psychosis is a mental health problem that causes people to perceive or interpret things differently from those around them. This might involve hallucinations or delusions.

Dr Rajeev Krishnadas PhD (MBBS MD MRCPsych) from Glasgow will be talking about Reality Distortion and Psychosis and exploring beliefs and perceptual abnormalities in the context of Psychosis – a group of conditions where a person loses touch with reality. Watch a promo video on the event.

For the first ever time in the history of UK Malayalees, an event will be held where the audience will have the luxury to hear their fellow community members doing presentations on various topics of interest.

United Rationalists of UK- URUK’s objective is to educate the society through seminars and presentation, promoting scientific temper and freethinking.

Nine thought provoking presentations from subject matter experts based in UK, and a Group Discussion with the audience to explore various viewpoints will be the highlight of the URUK’s Annual Conference 2019.

Education System in the UK: Binil Paul, a private tutor with Masters from University of Sheffield, has a deep dive into the national curriculum and assessments in school in England.

The Cognitive Miser and (un) Critical Thinking : Jaison Blesson Kolenchery (Pursuing PhD in Neuroscience). Our brain enables us to make quick decisions and snap judgments through heuristics and shortcuts which manifest in the form of biases and pre-dispositions to commit logical fallacies. This presentation attempts to briefly introduce some of these.

A Demonstration of Critical Thinking in Classrooms: Jomon Palakudy (Grammar School Teacher pursuing PG at Kings College London) Group activity to understand why critical thinking is important for Children and Adults. How to get started with applying critical thinking in everyday life.

Magic of Music: Rajesh Raman (Winner of Asianet Europe Talent Hunt and Passionate Musician) A mellifluous session exploring the art, science and grammar of music.

The conference will conclude with an interactive group discussion with the audience to explore various topics of interest and viewpoints. Scientific temper, freethinking and rationality is aimed to drive this interesting session.
