LONDON April 18: A Keralite student has been elected as president of the famed King’s College London Students’ Union.

Steven Suresh is likely to be the first ever Keralite to be elected as president of Kings College London’s Students Union.

Steven Suresh, after completing his Plus Two in Dubai, joined Kings College London to do his BA in Philosophy, politics and economics (PPE). He will complete his graduation next year.

Suresh is son of Suresh Kuttikkattu, a native of Chendamangalam in Ernakulam and Simi, a native of Cherai, who works in Dubai.

Suresh will now receive an annual salary of around £26,000 for his one year term as president.

Every student at King’s College is automatically a member of King’s College London Students’ Union (KCLSU). KCLSU is run by students, for students.

As president Suresh will provide leadership for KCLSU and is the main ambassador and external spokesperson for the Students’ Union. The role includes working with senior members of King’s College London, local government staff and officers, local MP’s and other external stakeholders.

The President leads the team of Student Officers and Student Councillors and works closely with the Students’ Union’s senior management to ensure that the organisation is delivering its charitable purpose and working towards its vision and values.

Some of the key responsibilities as president will be to promote, extend and defend the rights of all students at King’s College London, to act as the lead voice of students to KCLSU, the College and external organisations, to lead the Student Officer Team to ensure that the team is working well together and that the work the team produces is to a high standard and meets students’ needs.
