Elephant tramples mahout to death for starving it in Edava in Thiruvananthapuram (VIDEO)

EDAVA (Varkala) April 13: A mahout was killed by his elephant on Friday April 12, 2019, while it was being rested in the premises of a house in Edava in Thiruvananthapuram.

The elephant was brought to the Chirayil temple festival in Edava in Varkala within Thiruvanthapuram district for the procession which was held on Thursday evening.

Earlier in the day the first mahout Rajasekharan was attacked, who is hospitalised. The second mahout Baiju came around and started to feed the elephant and soon the elephant picked him up tossed him several times and thrashed him on the ground resulting in death.

Members of the elephant squad from Kollam reached the spot and tranquilized the elephant. According to the officials the attacks were manifestations of elephant’s anger for being left hungry.

According to the locals the two mahouts were under the influence of alcohol and possibly could have forgot to feed the elephant.

The deceased Baiju (45) is from Ezhukone in Kareepra Panchayat in Kollam district.
