Accused in murder of Aravind appears in court, remanded, psychiatric assessment requested

LONDON June 21: Salman Salim, aged 25, a native of Varkala, accused in the case of stabbing a Keralite Aravind Sasikumar to death in London’s Peckham, was produced in the London court yesterday.

Police allowed Aravind’s brother, living in Northampton, to watch yesterday’s court proceedings through video link.

The police informed the court about the progress of the investigation so far.

The court decided to put the accused on remand which means he will be in prison until the trial begins. The trial is likely to take place next year in July 2024.

According to reports, Salman Salim was seated without any emotions throughout the proceedings. Even when the actual incident hour was narrated graphically he sat unexpressive. The defence requested a psychological assessment be conducted as to evaluate his mental health.

The two witnesses living in the same house were released following enquiries. The statement from the two Keralite youths will be cricial to the case.

The testimonies of the two youths will be crucial in the case as there is no clue yet on the actual intent of this cold blooded murder.

Aravind’s brother will arrive in London from Northampton today to see his brother at St Thomas Hospital in London for the first time following the incident and for the follow up procedures for repatriation.

The Chief Investigating Officer is in direct contacts with the family members and keeping them updated about the details of the case.
