Keralite in UK to run rings around Croydon University Hospital to raise funds for NHS charity

CROYDON October 31: Local NHS supporter and avid runner Ashok Kumar is taking to the streets of Croydon to raise funds for Croydon Health Services NHS Charity this weekend (Sunday 1 November).

Trustee of Croydon Voluntary Action and Vice-Chair of the borough’s BME forum, Ashok will be taking on a 10km run around Croydon University Hospital to support the charity to provide additional support for NHS staff and patients, said a press note.

Ashok, who has run every World Marathon Majors route, will complete around seven loops of the hospital’s main site this Sunday from 11am and is encouraging doctors, nurses and local people to join him for a lap or two.

Talking about his fundraising efforts, Ashok said: “This year’s Vitality London 10K event is to be run virtually and I couldn’t think of any better cause than our local NHS and it’s hard working staff, who have continued to provide the best possible patient care throughout the COVID-19 pandemic.

“I’d love to be joined by others for a socially-distanced run around the hospital’s surrounding roads, ending at the London Road entrance at around 12noon for a celebratory cheer!”
Trust Chief Executive and Place Based Leader for Health, Matthew Kershaw said:“This year, more than ever, our staff are working incredibly hard and in unprecedented circumstances.

“From our doctors and nurses to our radiographers and therapists, right through to our estates and IT teams, every area of the Trust is working around the clock, playing their part to ensure that our get the care they need, when they need it.

“Money raised for the Croydon Health Services charity provides additional services for our staff to boost their wellbeing as well as equipment and facilities for our patients that go ‘above and beyond’ what is normally available.”
