Nine Arrested in Immigration Enforcement Raids at DPD Depots In Hampshire and Berkshire

LONDON June 12: Nine people working for parcel delivery company DPD have been arrested on suspicion of immigration offences following enforcement operations at depots in Hampshire and Berkshire, Home Office reported.

Immigration Enforcement officers carried out raids at DPD sites in Basingstoke and Newbury on Thursday morning, conducting right-to-work checks on more than 100 individuals across both locations.

According to the Home Office, those arrested included seven Indian nationals, one Ghanaian national and one Pakistani national. The individuals are suspected of working illegally in the UK.

All nine have been placed on immigration bail, subject to conditions, while further investigations are carried out.

The Home Office said the operation formed part of the government’s ongoing crackdown on illegal working. Authorities will now seek to establish who may be liable for employing the individuals. Employers found to be in breach of immigration laws can face fines of up to £60,000 per worker.

A DPD spokesperson said the company had cooperated fully with the operation.

“We assisted Immigration Enforcement officers with the removal of a small number of people from our Newbury and Basingstoke depots and we will continue to cooperate fully with their investigation,” the spokesperson said.

The company added that it maintains strict employment verification procedures and will review both its own processes and those of relevant third-party recruitment agencies and suppliers.

The Home Office said enforcement activity against illegal working has increased significantly since July 2024, with arrests rising by 83% and raids increasing by 77% across the UK, describing the effort as the highest level of enforcement activity in British history.
