UK Pravasi Help Desk writes to Home Office to resolve delays in renewal of COS for skilled worker visas

LONDON Nov 14: UK Pravasi Help Desk, a community organisation supporting people from India living in the UK, has written to the UK government requesting them to urgently address delays in renewing Certificate of Sponsorship (COS) for skilled worker visas.

The letter also requests for clear updates on renewal delays published processing times priority for care workers and expedited route and support channel for urgent UK-based cases.

Many skilled workers including senior carers and frontline healthcare staff face long delays in COS renewals which risks their lawful status despite continued employment. These delays are causing financial instability emotional distress and fear of family separation, said the letter

Many of these workers supported the UK during Covid-19 and provided essential care to elderly and vulnerable people. Disruptions to their visa renewals threaten continuity of care.

Several migrant health care workers have raised serious concerns regarding prolonged delays in the allocation of Certificates of Sponsorship (CoS) by the Home Office, which are severely affecting their ability to extend visas under the Skilled Worker route. These delays are not only disrupting professional lives but also placing immense pressure on families, many of whom include dependent spouses and children legally residing in the UK.

According to community information many applicants have been waiting far beyond published service standards despite holding valid job offers from licensed sponsors. This uncertainty is causing significant financial hardship, emotional distress, and in some cases, the real threat of family separation. The affected members are skilled professionals in senior carer jobs who are frontline healthcare workers providing critical care to elderly and vulnerable residents across the UK.

“We respectfully request an urgent meeting with your office to discuss the current backlog in CoS allocations, explore options to help the affected individuals and to ensure that their voices are heard. Your swift intervention would prevent irreparable harm to dedicated healthcare workers and their families who are proud to serve the UK”, said the letter addressed to the Home Secretary.
