Indian CEO Warns Against Migrating West, Citing Harsh Realities and “End of Good Times”

LONDON Aug 12: Indian CEO Vinay Aggarwal of Indovision Services Pvt Ltd has cautioned fellow Indians to reconsider moving to Western countries, citing rising challenges for immigrants and saying the “good times are over.” In a LinkedIn post, Aggarwal compared relocating to the West today to “arriving at a party at 3 AM,” warning that opportunities are not as abundant as they once were.

He pointed to shrinking white-collar job openings for immigrants in Western economies and highlighted other hurdles, including discrimination, slower career advancement, and social alienation. “You’ll have to work twice as hard for half the rewards. Juniors may get promoted over you. People won’t eat your food at lunches. Your culture may be mocked, and India is often represented in the media through slums and stereotypes,” Aggarwal observed.

Aggarwal also warned about the emotional toll of living without a social support network. He noted that family relationships abroad can become strained, leading to higher rates of marital breakdown and feelings of isolation ― describing this as being caught in a “Trishanku” state, neither fully belonging abroad nor at home.

He advised those considering migration to visit countries first or reconsider unless in desperate circumstances, arguing that friends and family overseas rarely admit their struggles and might paint an overly rosy picture to encourage others to join them.

Aggarwal’s remarks sparked debate online. Some readers agreed, sharing stories of friends’ struggles abroad and the universal realities of stress, while others criticized the post as prejudiced and overly negative, advocating for a balanced, case-by-case assessment of global opportunities.
