Elon Musk stirs controversy with Twitter poll to “Liberate” UK from its present government

LONDON Jan 7: Elon Musk, CEO of X/Twitter, yesterday posted a controversial poll asking users if “America should liberate the people of Britain from their tyrannical government.” With over 1.1 million views, the poll has garnered significant attention, with a majority of respondents voting “yes.”

Musk’s recent criticisms of the UK government and Labour Party politicians, including Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer, have focused on the country’s approach to handling multiple grooming gangs. Starmer previously led a comprehensive overhaul of the Crown Prosecution Service’s response to grooming in 2012, aiming to increase convictions.

As the debate surrounding Musk’s remarks and the Twitter poll continues, the UK’s political landscape remains under scrutiny both domestically and internationally.

Elon Musk has asked users on X/Twitter whether “America should liberate the people of Britain from their tyrannical government.” The poll, shared by social media company’s CEO, has been viewed more than 1.1million times and is heavily in favour of “yes” as opposed to the other option “no.”

The Space X and Tesla boss has recently posted several attacks about Labour Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer as well as politicians in the party. Musk has strongly criticised the UK Government over the country’s handling of the multiple grooming gangs.

Sir Keir previously ordered a comprehensive overhaul of the Crown Prosecution Service’s response to grooming in 2012 in an attempt to drive up convictions. At the time Sir Keir said a generation of girls had been betrayed by a flawed justice system and argues prosecutors “shouldn’t shy away from” understanding issues of ethnicity.

He also hit out at minister Jess Phillips who formally denied requests for the Home Office to carry out a public inquiry into child sexual exploitation in Oldham. Phillips instead instructed Oldham Council to launch its own inquiry into historic child sexual abuse in the town in October.

A similar request was also rejected by the last Conservative government. The Tories said it was for local authorities to commission local inquiries.

Musk has shared multiple posts on the scandal and branded Phillips a “rape genocide apologist” after gangs of men groomed and sexually assaulted girls across the UK. He also criticised Sir Keir over failures to prosecute gangs.
