Shocking footage shows moment a Keralite flies through the air after hit by car (Video)

COVENTRY Dec 21: A Keralite miraculously escaped with his life when he was thrown 9ft into the air in a hit-and-run crash involver a driver who mounted the pavement. Astonishing footage showed the moment Mridhul Kombara, 35, was catapulted off the ground by a white Ford Fiesta, Daily Mail reported.

The car veered onto the pavement and smashed into the dad-of-one – but the footage showed the motorist casually open car doors as if to collect belongings before walking past the casualty without even bothering to check on his condition. West Midlands Police said no arrests had been made, according to Birmingham Mail.

Reports in the Daily Mail said that Mridhul escaped with a hairline fracture on his left ankle, as well as injuries to his hips, shoulder and legs. The IT worker was hurt outside Ranya mini market in Coventry as he walked to meet friends at a restaurant at around 12.15pm on September 15, 2024.

Mridhul, who is from Coventry, said: “I’ve been left traumatised by it. I get scared walking down the street now and I still can’t watch the video without getting teary.

“Someone was looking out for me that day, it’s a miracle I wasn’t more seriously injured. I saw the car coming but I assumed he was going to pull over and park on the side of the road.

“But the speed wasn’t decreasing and the car came straight towards me. That’s when I jumped to get out the way and was thrown up by the bonnet.

“The driver didn’t even apologise. It was really painful, but I feel lucky to be alive. I just want closure now, I want to know who did this, and why.”

West Midlands Police said: “No arrest as yet but investigations are ongoing to identify and trace the driver involved.”

Mridhul was luckily helped by passers-by and the manager of a local supermarket who came to his assistance and called an ambulance.

But rather than staying in the UK, Mridhul travelled to Kerala, India to have his wounds treated to ‘avoid NHS wait times’.

Mridhul said he wanted to know the identity of the reckless driver, adding that he would like ‘closure’ on the issue.

‘It was really painful, but I feel lucky to be alive’, he added.

Coventry Police said no arrests had been made in connection with the incident, but that it was continuing enquiries to identify and track down the driver.

He was rushed to University Hospital Coventry where he was found to have a fracture on his left ankle and injuries in his hips, legs and shoulder, the Sun reported.

The father-of-one, who works in IT, said he had been left ‘traumatised’ by the freak incident, which occurred while he was walking to a restaurant to meet friends.

He said: ‘Someone was looking out for me that day, it’s a miracle I wasn’t more hurt.’

Mridhul initially believed the car was pulling up to park at the side of the road, before he realised its speed wasn’t decreasing and was then thrown up by the bonnet of the car.

The driver of the car, who remains unknown, is shown leaving his car and running away from the scene without apologising to the victim.
