UK Malayali Content Creators group inaugurated: First ever meet up at Sheffield

SHEFFIELD July 29: A group of Keralites in UK, who host their own social media handles in various platforms, have come together to form the first ever “UK Malayali Content Creator” (UKMCC)group. The group was inaugurated on July 27 at Grand Kerala restaurant, 33 Carver Street, Sheffield City Centre, S1 4FS.

The meet began with a meet and greet where everyone was able to savour the delicious Keralan breakfast at Grand Kerala Restaurant. Shefeeq and Misna Shefeeq from UKMCC greeted and helped the participants with the registration who were presented with a UKMCC badge as a token or souvenir for the event to be remembered for ever. This was followed with an ice-breaker session where the attendees were given an opportunity to introduce themselves and their social media handles.

The inaugural meet began with the welcome speech by Shaju Antu, official at UKMCC, who gave a brief about the group and welcome the guest and the attendees. The inauguration was done with the lighting of the lamp by Balakrishnan Balagopal, BBC Panorama reporter, in the presence of Jithu Sebastian, director of UKMCC, managing directors of Grand Kerala. Balagopal, in his inaugural speech called upon the Malayalee content creators to step up to the role of becoming journalists in the UK.

Jithu Sebastian explained to the attendees the aims and objectives of the group and future goals. He said that the main goal is to facilitate regular meetups, occasional gatherings, and celebrations during festival seasons.

This was followed by a short presentation by Balagopal on key takeaways from his time as journalist in the UK and what the latest trends are in the media sector in 2024 and beyond based on digital news project titled “Journalism Media and Technology Trends and Predictions 2024”. He explained to the attendees about how media is changing and how powerful content creators are becoming these days.

Steffin from Global Mallu briefly spoke about search engine optimization (SEO) and how it helps search engines understand content, and help users find their site and make a decision about whether they should visit your site through a search engine.

Tinto from That Mallu in UK spoke about the experience of retrieving a hacked channel, Joffy from Kurish Junction spoke about poster and thumbnail creation, Imnah explained about illustration and sketching

Following the Question and Answer session there was the big cake cutting session which brought the event to a high.

Nandana and Abees proposed the vote of thanks.

The morning session ended with the lunch from Grand Kerala Restaurant followed by cultural entertainments hosted by Misna Shafeeq and Siju Wilson.
