Hartals should not be called without issuing prior notice: HC

KOCHI Jan 8: The high court has ruled that hartals should not be called without issuing a notice.

High Court made the observation while considering the plea filed by Kerala chamber of commerce and Malayalavedi. Such strikes should not affect the fundamental rights of the people.
Therefore, a notice should be issued seven days ago, announced the bench presided over by the chief justice.
The High Court had criticized the state government and asked what actions were taken by the government to tackle the attacks staged by hartal supporters on the day of hartal called by Sabarimala Karma Samithi.
The court observed that Hartal is a serious issue and the fact that 97 hartals happened in the state in 2018 is unbelievable.
The court was considering the petitions filed by Biju Ramesh and another person seeking protection for shops on the day of hartal.
