LONDON Oct 17: A Malayalee shop owner has voiced his anger and is wearing a written note after Police arrested him following a mistaken identity of both him and his vehicle a Blue Vauxhall Zafira, Hampshire And Iow News reported.

Rajeev Vijayan, 45, postmaster of Whalesmead Post Office in Bishopstoke, was wrongfully arrested on Friday 11th October, and members of the public witnessed 8 officers at the shop to assist in his arrest – quite possibly his moustache may have saved him.

Rajeev, who is described as “a pillar” to the community has since worn a note stating;

“My character and integrity been assasinated by wrong and discraceful accusation and heavy force of arrest and detention by the police, They put me in the jail just because I am an Asian having a Vauxhall Zafira car, They let me out just because I am having moustache.

Customers took to social media to show support for Rajeev, some stating: “Raj is a pillar of this community and we should support him at this time – this is a case of mistaken identity and anyone who has seen the images of the suspect would see instantly it is not him”

“He is a lovely and hard working man! This isn’t right” “Raj is literally the nicest guy. As are his family this is so horrendous for him” “He is a lovely man, when I went into the post office after my daughter had her injections at the doctor he let her choose any sweet she wanted for free.”

It is believed that police made the arrest after a male described as Asian, between 40 and 50’s in a dirty Vauxhall Zafira (pictured) asked a female for directions and was then seen masturbating on Oakgrove Road, Fair oak and other locations.

Images of the car and shopkeepers show a different grill layout. (and offender not seen with a moustache)
