Keralite student on PSW visa drowns in river while kayaking in London

LONDON April 5: A Keralite student who had come to London to study at a university has passed away yesterday. Keerthi Rajagopal (25), who was working on a PSW visa after completing her studies, died in an accident while kayaking in London during the Easter holidays.

Keerthi is from Karakuzhi in Vellikoth Kanhangad in Kasaragod.

Keerthi completed MA in International Child Rights and Development from Kings College London in the academic year 2023-2024

According to the police, the woman was last seen in the E-14 postcode area. It is learnt that she lost control while kayaking and fell into the river. Although rescue efforts were made it was unsuccessful.

The body was recovered by Bexley Police officers in the Woolwich area of the River Thames. The body is currently being kept at the Greenwich Public Mortuary.

Keerthi is the daughter of former Army officer Colonel Rajagopal and Reena. Vinayak is the only brother. As the official arrangements are on leave in the UK, NORKA has requested the active intervention of the UK Malayalees to bring Keerthi’s body home as soon as possible.

It is hoped that the process will be expedited after the family approached NORKA clarifying the place where Keerthi lived and worked. Since tomorrow is a bank holiday after the Easter holidays, even the officials of the Indian Embassy will have to wait for accurate information as they will arrive only on Tuesday.

Keerthi was working as Patient Service Advisor for a health group firm in the Lambeth area of south-east London. Keerthi’s family has also sought help from the place where she works.

This website offers its sincere condolences to the bereaving family.
