Former Malayalee Association of UK Secretary and Director KG Nair passed away: Funeral on May 27

LONDON May 20: KG Nair (Kokkaraveetil Gangadharan Nair), former Secretary and Director of the Malayalee Association of UK, passed away on May 15, 2026 at the age of 93, following age-related illness.

KG Nair was widely known within the UK Malayalee community for his kindness, warmth, and approachable nature. His natural charm and steady commitment to community service made him a respected and well-loved figure among members of all ages. His origins are from Chelakkara in Thrissur district.

During his tenure with MAUK, he played an active role in supporting community development initiatives, fundraising efforts, and organisational projects. He was especially dedicated to senior citizens’ welfare activities. Among his notable contributions were the weekly Drop-In Service held every Thursday, where elderly community members gathered to socialise, share ideas, and discuss future needs and services. He was also instrumental in organising the Thursday Lunch Club, which became an important social support space for many seniors.

His late wife, Girija Nair, passed away in 2013. She too was deeply involved with MAUK activities and founded the Sixty Plus Sisters’ Club, leaving behind a legacy of selfless community service that continues to inspire many. KG Nair and Girija Nair leaves behind son Giri, daughter Geeta and granddaughter Libby.

Friday 22 May: 3:00pm – 5:00pm
Saturday 23 May: 9:00am – 1:30pm
Tuesday 26 May: 9:00am – 5:00pm

Pooja Service – Wednesday 27 May: 1:30pm – 2:30pm at T Cribb & Sons Funeral Directors – Victoria House, Beckton E6 5PA

Following the pooja, the hearse will briefly stop at the family home, 113 Shrewsbury Road, for a moment of silence and final respects before proceeding to the crematorium.

Refreshments will be held after the service at MAUK Kerala House, 671 Romford Road, London E12 5AD.
