Keralite doctor’s body found after him going missing from Ipswich

IPSWICH July 3: A body has been found during the search for a missing Ipswich man, police informed.

Officers from Suffolk police have confirmed a body was found in Braziers Wood on Wednesday after a member of the public found the body just before 9.30am.

Although the body has yet to be formally identified, Ramaswamy Jayaram’s family has been notified. Fifty-six-year-old Ramaswamy Jayaram was last seen in the town in the early hours of the morning on Sunday, June 30.

Police searches had been taking place in the area surrounding Ravenswood and Orwell Country Park, where he was last seen.

Family friends and members of the public conducted searches in the area alongside Suffolk Lowland Search and Rescue and HM Coastguard. His car, a grey Citroen C1, was later found in the Ravenswood area of Ipswich.

The death is currently being treated as unexplained, but there are not believed to be any suspicious circumstances.

Thrissur native Jayaram’s disappearance was described as out of character and his family and officers are concerned for his welfare.

Jayaram had lived in Kent several years before him moving to Ipswich. He was also a good cricketer who played for Friends Cricket Club in Kent.

Suffolk police has confirmed his car, a grey Citroen C1, was later found in the Ravenswood area of Ipswich.

The police added that the death was being treated as unexplained but there were not believed to be any suspicious circumstances.

A file is being prepared for the coroner.

Mr Jayaram worked for the Norfolk and Suffolk NHS Foundation Trust.

Caroline Donovan, the chief executive of the trust, said: “My deepest sympathy and condolences go to the family, friends and colleagues of our much loved and respected Dr Ramaswamy Jayaram, known as Dr Jay to his colleagues and friends, at this incredibly sad time.”

Police searches previously took place in the vicinity of Ravenswood and Orwell Country Park in the town.

They were assisted by Suffolk Lowland Search and Rescue and HM Coastguard.

The family and friends of Mr Jayaram, along with members of the public, had also conducted searches in the area.

Dr Jayaram, married to Catherine and father to one daughter, was living in Ipswich.
