Indian woman dies after allegedly stabbed by husband in Cork in Ireland

CORK (Wilton) Ireland July 15: An investigation is underway in Cork after the discovery of a woman’s body at a house in a suburb of Cork city in Ireland, news reports said.

Police in Ireland are investigating the fatal assault in relation to the discovery of the body at a residence in ‎Wilton, Cork on the Friday night, July 14, at approximately 10.10pm.

Police and emergency services rushed to the scene where the woman in her late 30s was pronounced dead after suffering a suspected stab wound.

Reports say that the couple are from Palakkad in Kerala.

The suspect in the case, reported as victim’s husband aged 41-year-old is being questioned in Togher garda station. He was arrested at the scene last night and can be held for up to 24 hours. He was arrested under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act.

The couple has a son who is now being ‘cared for’

A Family Liaison Officer has been appointed.

The woman was pronounced dead at the scene. It is understood she was found in a bedroom in her home

Gardaí (police) are currently trying to establish a motive for the stabbing on Friday night, but early indications are it is linked to a “domestic disturbance”.

The woman arrived in Ireland from India in recent months and was working in Cork city.

Investigations are ongoing.

Members of the Indian Community in Cork are planning to join representatives of their Embassy, and the wider community, in assisting the loved ones of the deceased. Every effort is made to assist the relatives of the deceased on practical matters such as repatriation of the body to India.
