Uber launches international flight bookings on its UK app: Kochi may be included

LONDON May 11: Uber has announced a new UK feature that will allow users to book flights directly in the Uber app. The new functionality – powered by online travel agent Hopper – will be available to all UK users this summer and will allow them to book domestic and international flights from the app.

To book a flight Uber app users will need to enter their travel details, including where they will be travelling to and from, along with dates.

Customers will then be able to select their departing flight and returning flight if a round trip.

With major carriers, users will be able to select seats in the app and then pay, just as they would for any Uber service.

Uber said this new functionality ‘will allow for a true door-to-door experience for air travellers, with all legs of the journey being manageable in Uber’s smart travel itinerary’.

In addition, the ride-share firm said that ‘through working with Hopper’, it can offer customers ‘multiple unique peace of mind products to help make air travel stress-free’, including ‘price freeze, flight disruption guarantee, cancel for any reason, change for any reason and VIP support’.

Flights on Uber join existing transport options including Uber Rides, Uber Boat by Thames Clippers, train journeys across the National Rail network, Eurostar and coach travel with National Express and Megabus.

Last month, Uber announced the expansion of its ‘Reserve’ facility across six more cities in India, giving riders an option to pre-book their rides 30 minutes to 90 days ahead of their travel. Uber Reserve will now be available for cash payments offering riders access to pre-booked rides, it said in a statement.

The six new cities added are Kochi, Chandigarh, Ahmedabad, Jaipur, Lucknow, and Guwahati.

“Reserve now appears as a new option in the latest version of the Uber app and is available on Uber Premier, Uber Intercity, Uber Rentals, and Uber XL,” an Uber release said.

With this, the service is now live across 13 cities — Mumbai, Bengaluru, Delhi-NCR, Kolkata, Chennai, Pune, Hyderabad, Kochi, Chandigarh, Ahmedabad, Jaipur, Lucknow, and Guwahati — in India.
