Varkala native arrested for alleged murder of Aravind: Community unites to help Aravind’s brother

LONDON June 17: A Keralite was stabbed to death by another Malayalee in the early hours of Friday, 16 June in Peckham in London. The deceased has been identified as Aravind Sasikumar (37) who is from Panampilly Nagar in Ernakulam.

Aravind’s flat mate, aged 20, from Varkala, is arrested on suspicion of murder. He remains in custody where he will be questioned. Enquiries are ongoing. No details have been known about the motive of the murder.

According to reports received by this website Aravind was supporting the 20-year-old who arrived in the UK on student visa. Even the other residents are not able to share any apparent reasons. The actual reasons will come out only once all enquiries have taken place. The two witnesses are requested not to reveal what they witnessed.

Aravind’s brother, who lives in Nottingham, arrived in Peckham yesterday and began liaisons with police and hospital. He was accompanied by his friends to support him. Malayalee organisations based in London are supporting Aravind’s brother by offering all support.

Aravind’s brother and friends were offered accoommodation funds to remain in London to sort out the formalities. However, Aravind’s brother informed late in the evening that due to the weekend he will go back to Nottingham and return on Monday as any further procedures would now take place only on Monday.

Indian High Commission in London has been informed and their team have made contacts with Aravind’s brother and offered all support.

A Whatsapp group is formed to support Aravind’s brother through the whole process. The group consists of community leaders who are well exeprienced in managing such situations, a solicitor, a Consultant, UK Malayalee Cricket League chair and a coordinator to see the whole process through.

Aravind Sasikumar is known to be a friendly face among the Malayalee cricket fraternity in London. UK Malayalee Cricket League members expressed shock and dismay over the death and are all ready to help in whichever way they can.

Due to the weekend there would not be much movements in regards to repatriation at this time. However, if all procedures go swiftly then we are looking to have the repatriation done within three weeks.

Aravind’s brother has all contacts for any help and assistance to be offered at any time and the community is on standby for all support.
