LONDON Sept 20: Geomon Joseph (45) can be termed as one of the most successful and promising person within the Keralite UK community due to his sheer will and determination and the passion to strive and succeed. But fate played truant and was plucked away early from life.

Geomon Joseph arrived in the UK as a migrant in early 2000 seeking pastures new and through his hard work he set up the UK College of Business and Computing (UKCBC), an international, independent higher education (HE) college in London, providing affordable and high-quality education for the last 17 years to students from the UK and the European Union. The College has grown from having just a single campus to now having six across London, including campuses in Oxford Circus and Holborn.

Life was all normal for Geomon from Romford in London, until the Covid pandemic struck the UK too along with the other countries. At the end of March 2020 Geomon too fell ill due to Covid and he was admitted to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in London. Due to his health deteriorating he was later shifted to the Royal Papworth Hospital in Cambridge which is one of the world’s leading cardiothoracic hospitals and the UK’s main heart and lung transplant centre.

Local reports say that although Covid tests were negative, his internal organs were not responding to medications and all efforts for revival were proving to be futile. He was put on the ECMO machine as he was unable to breathe for himself. (ECMO does the job of the lungs, allowing the organs to rest and recover).

Finally after a prolonged period of treatment he passed away on 29th August 2020. The family took his body back to his home place for them to have the last rites done.

His funeral was held at the St Dominic’s Cathedral Kanjirappally in Kottayam in Kerala on 20th September 2020 at the St Dominic’s Cathedral in Kanjirappally in Kottayam. Mar Mathew Arackal led the funeral proceedings following the Covid restrictions in regards to social distancing.

His friends remember him as someone with drive and determination. Geomon arrived in the UK on a student visa went onto become a successful businessman. He was a former chairman of St. Dominic’s College, Kanjirapally and an active KSU activist during his college days. With his passing away the Keralite community in UK are witness to losing one of their most promising members who would have gone to achieve greater heights and become a helping hand to several needy.
