LONDON April 6: A Keralite student from Stoke-On-Trent has been arrested and put in detention centre in Bedford waiting deportation for working more than 20 hours.

It was only last week we reported about two other students and a dependant of one student were put in detention centre for working more than the 20 hours. Two out of those three will be deported. Meanwhile, one of the student got bail and his detention order stands revoked.

The latest arrest and detention of another Keralite student comes from the same town from where the three others were arrested few weeks back.

The student has been given explanation by Home Office on what the offences he has committed and the reasons why his deportation is imminent.

The Home Office decision states that the student’s conditions to remain in the UK was on condition that his employment is limited 20 hours a week during term time provided he is studying at the University of Strathosphere (name changed).

Following the Home Office receiving information that he has breached the immigration law they said that he is considered a person who has failed to observe a condition of leave to enter or remain because he has been observed to be working for Texin Care Home Limited, a care home agency (name changed) and evidence in the form of Timesheet received from the care home confirmed that he has been working in excess of his permitted hours, between 21 and 35 hours per week on a number of occasions, which is clearly in excess of the hours he could legally work.

The Home Office has given him the option to leave the UK voluntarily. However, should he be removed it will be to one of the Indian airports”.

The care agency will be hit with a fine and likely their name published on the Home Office website.
