Tragic death of Keralite Ayurvedic doctor in London leaves wife hospitalized

LONDON Jan 5: Anand Narayanan, a 31-year-old Ayurvedic doctor from Tripunithura, moved to the UK with his wife Haritha, also an Ayurvedic doctor, a year and a half ago. Pursuing further studies and working as a carer, Anand’s life took a tragic turn after a month-long battle with liver disease at London’s King’s Hospital.

Despite receiving intensive medical care and multiple ICU admissions, his condition rapidly deteriorated due to infections affecting multiple organs. Last week, internal bleeding worsened, and Anand passed away on January 3, 2025, after being taken off life support.

The family is facing immense emotional and financial strain during this difficult time. Haritha, 29, collapsed from the shock of Anand’s death and remains hospitalized, while Anand’s elderly parents in Kerala are battling health issues of their own.

The couple had come to the UK with a debt of approximately Rs 30 lakh, taken on to finance their student visas and relocation expenses. With no source of income, Haritha is struggling to cover basic living costs, including rent, and is now burdened by substantial financial obligations.

A group of Malayali nurses and friends have stepped up to provide relief and comfort to Haritha, demonstrating the love and compassion for which Malayali nurses are known.

Anand’s loss comes as his family was already grappling with financial difficulties in paying off loans and supporting their ailing relatives. Anand’s body has been moved to the mortuary, while his wife Haritha, a native of Anchalamoodu in Kollam, remains hospitalized.

Anand was the son of K G Narayanan Nair and Santhakumari, residing near the Pavakulangara temple in Tripunithura. His family includes his elderly father, mother who is recovering from a heart attack, and a married sister.
