Sign Petition: Urgent Action Needed on Delays in CoS Renewals for Skilled Worker Visas

LONDON Jan 15: A public petition has been launched calling on the UK Government to urgently address the growing and unacceptable delays in the renewal of Certificates of Sponsorship (CoS) for Skilled Worker visas.

Despite being in continuous employment and providing essential services, thousands of skilled workers are facing prolonged delays in receiving renewed CoS, placing their lawful immigration status at serious risk. These delays occur even when employers are fully compliant and ready to sponsor, leaving workers trapped in uncertainty through no fault of their own.

The PETITION calls for:

Transparent and regular updates on CoS renewal backlogs
Clearly published and realistic processing times
Priority processing for care workers and healthcare professionals
An expedited pathway and dedicated support channel for urgent, UK-based cases where visa expiry is imminent

The impact of these delays is severe. Skilled workers, including senior carers, nurses, and frontline healthcare staff, are experiencing financial hardship, emotional distress, and constant fear of losing their legal right to live and work in the UK. Many are unable to plan their futures, extend housing contracts, or make travel arrangements. Families face the risk of separation, and dependants’ statuses are also jeopardised.

These workers played a critical role during the COVID-19 pandemic and continue to care for the UK’s elderly, disabled, and vulnerable populations. Delays in CoS renewals not only harm the workers themselves but also disrupt continuity of care, exacerbate staff shortages, and place additional strain on an already overstretched health and social care sector.

The petition urges the Government to take immediate and practical action to prevent avoidable harm, protect lawful workers, and ensure the immigration system operates fairly, efficiently, and humanely.
