Keralite Man Charged For Attempted Murder of Wife in Lincoln

LINCOLN Aug 31: A Keralite has been charged with attempting to murder his wife in Lincoln, UK. Lincolnshire Police reported that Shibu Mathews, a 51-year-old resident of Sincil Bank, Lincoln, was remanded into custody following an alleged stabbing incident involving his spouse.

On August 27, police responded to a report of a woman being stabbed at a Sincil Bank residence in Lincoln at 12:54 pm.

Medical assistance was administered, and the woman was hospitalized with serious injuries. She remains in stable condition after emergency surgery.

The people involved are known to each other, as confirmed by authorities.

Shibu Mathews was produced before Lincoln Magistrates’ Court on August 29 and remanded until a further hearing.

A case of attempted murder has been registered against him; investigations are ongoing, and further hearings will be held once statements from the victim become available.

Shibu Mathews is originally from Mannar in the Alappuzha district of Kerala, and his wife, the victim, is from Kottayam.

The couple moved to the UK from Dubai two years ago. His wife works as a nurse in Lincolnshire.

The incident reportedly occurred in front of their daughter, who is now in the police’s care under social services. The daughter’s statement will be deemed crucial for the investigation.

The family has a second child who is not currently in the UK.

Neighbours have reported previous disputes and police interventions at the family’s residence.

Police indicated that, if convicted under UK law, Shibu Mathews could face deportation after serving any sentence.

Reports touch on broader issues faced by some immigrant families in the UK, such as income inequality and the challenges of adapting to local social norms, particularly when wives are the primary earners and husbands are on dependent visas.

Family counselors emphasize the importance of compromise, mutual respect, and healthy boundaries in relationships to maintain peace and prevent similar incidents.

Shibu Mathews remains in custody as the investigation continues, with police treating statements from his wife and daughter as vital for the forthcoming trial.
