Keralite lured to lonely place and beaten up by Malayalee gang in Leeds: Suspicions of COS business gone wrong

By A Staff Reporter

LEEDS April 11: A Keralite, who had arrived only a few years back, was lured to a lonely place by another gang of Malayalees and was beaten up on Sunday evening in Leeds. A police complaint has been lodged with the West Yorkshire Police, a Malayalee community leader confirmed with this website.

According to the community leader, this Keralite, who is husband of a nurse, arrived only around three years back and is a member of the Leeds Malayalee Association (LEMA). This Keralite was asked by the Malayalee gang to come to a specific location to talk business. The Keralite already knew these perpetrators and was constantly in liaison with them prior to the incident. On arriving at the mutually agreed location the Malayalee gang set upon him and beat him up brutally the moment he came out of his car.

Reports say that he was beaten up so brutally which resulted in fractures. The victim attended hospital and now back home. A case has been registered. The victim knows the perpetrators and he is expected to divulge all information to the West Yorkshire Police. The victim has not revealed any details as the case is under investigation.

LEMA Press Note

Leeds Malayalee Association has now come out with a press note stating a strong disapproval of such happenings within the community. The time when Malayalees targeting Malayalees has come around in UK and this cannot continue, said the note.

Releasing a press note by an organisation of this nature is very new to the community. It is a good gesture which will encourage other organisations also to take note of such issues happening within the communities.

“The organisation is looking to provide all support to the victim and also provide him with all necessary legal guidance. This is only if the victim is willing to receive the support from us”, the community leader told this website.

Suspicions of COS business gone wrong

Unconfirmed reports said that the issue between the victim and the other Malayalee gang arose from the ‘sale’ of COS (Certificate of Sponsorship) business going wrong.

The victim and his family handed over a hefty sum of money to a person who runs a recruitment business in Leeds to secure a COS on behalf of their relative. As the recruitment agents were not able to secure the COS on the said dates the victims asked to return the money. But the visa dealers replied to wait.

Meanwhile, the victim’s argument was that the money should be returned as the immigration rules in UK changed and it was not desirable to buy a healthcare visa by paying the money given to them.

The agents adopted a knee-jerk policy that the money has already been used up for visa-related purposes. There was also an uncomfortable conversation on both sides over this.

Realising that the chances of getting the money were dwindling, the wife of the victim, introduced the issue to a social media group that is actively involved in such matters. With this, the recruitment agents took revenge on this Keralite by hiring student visa holders as quotation groups by paying money, says unconfirmed reports.

The victim was called to talk to him about it on Sunday evening and was brutally attacked. It is believed that The victim has given clear information to the police about the accused. With the information about the visa (COS) business also coming out, things are now getting out of hand. Moreover, a Malayalee organisation in the area has issued a public statement declaring support to the youth who was attacked.

This website has written to West Yorkshire Police and awaiting further details.
