India launches revamped e-Migrate web portal and mobile app for Indian workers going abroa

NEW DELHI Oct 15: External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar and Labour and Employment Minister Mansukh Mandaviya launched the updated e-Migrate portal and mobile app last week, marking a step towards safer, transparent, and inclusive labour mobility for Indian workers going abroad.

Jaishankar emphasized that the platform reflects the government’s commitment to improving the welfare of Indian workers overseas. He recalled Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s release of a postal stamp promoting legal and safe migration with the motto “Surakshit Jaayen, Prashikshit Jaayen” (Go Safe, Go Well-Trained). Jaishankar stated, “Today’s event captures that sentiment because it is an expression of the Modi government’s commitment to improving ease of living and to enhancing people-centric governance.

The enhanced e-Migrate portal aligns with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goal 10, promoting orderly and responsible migration. Jaishankar highlighted that the upgraded platform offers 24/7 multilingual helpline support and a feature for feedback, ensuring timely redressal of issues faced by workers abroad, especially in the Gulf region. He remarked, “We must also acknowledge the vulnerabilities that they face in foreign lands,” underscoring the government’s responsibility to protect Indian workers

He further noted the growing demand for skilled workers globally and India’s proactive negotiations with other nations on mobility since 2015. The revamped system integrates with Digilocker, enabling secure, paperless document submission. Additionally, a partnership with Common Service Centres (CSCs) will expand immigration services to rural areas in local languages, enhancing accessibility. Jaishankar stated, “This is very much measured towards people-centric and ease of living goals.”

The platform also supports job-seekers by offering a one-stop marketplace for overseas employment opportunities. Jaishankar highlighted, “The creation of a one-stop authentic marketplace for searching job opportunities abroad is essential in today’s digital world.” He noted that new collaborations with the State Bank of India enable digital payment services with zero transaction fees and aim to broaden immigrants’ social security through insurance coverage.
