UKMCL 2024 League season starts with a bang (Week 1 Match Report)

LONDON May 4: The UKMCL 2024 League season started with a bang last weekend. A total of 10 matches were scheduled for the first weekend of the season, but unfortunately two were called off because of bad weather. We had 6 matches on Saturday and 2 matches on Sunday.
The Saturday League Matches kicked off at 12.30 PM on 27th April.

The first match was between Eastham Malayalee Cricket Club and Malayalee Cricket Club. In a thrilling cricket display, EMCC secured a victory by 36 runs. The match’s highlight was an outstanding performance by Sreeraj KS, who was rightly awarded Man of the Match for his explosive innings of 68 runs off just 28 balls. Saturday Man of the Match 1 was Sreeraj KS of EMCC.
In the second Saturday match between Shan Sports Club and Eden CC, Shan Sports Club emerged victorious in the toss and opted to field. Eden CC managed to score 83 runs within 18.1 overs. Subsequently, Shan SC, in a remarkable display of skill, successfully chased down the target in just 9.2 overs, and Sumaid Ali was the Man of the Match with an impressive 3 Wickets. In the third Saturday League Match between Global CC Vs Royal Blasters CC, Global emerged victorious after a tense chase, overtaking Royal Blasters’ total of 144 in just 24.1 overs. The match showcased skill and strategy, with Global’s decision to bat first proving wise. Murali’s exceptional performance, scoring a not-out 49, earned him the ‘Man of the Match’ title, highlighting his pivotal role in Global’s win by six wickets. Saturday Man of the Match 3 was Murali Nair of Global CC.
In the fourth Saturday League match between Hornbills CC and Heathrow Malayali CC, HMCC secured a commanding victory after electing to bat first, posting a challenging score of 192/9 in 30 overs. The Hornbills, facing a robust defence, were dismissed for 88 in just 21 overs. The standout performance came from Rejith Rajan, whose exceptional 5-wicket haul earned him the Man of the Match award, highlighting his pivotal role in the team’s triumph. Saturday Man of the Match 4 was Rejith Rajan of HMCC who received the trophy from Hornbills Captain Isaac Varghese.
In the fifth match between London Falcons CC and Knight Valour CC, Knight Valour CC secured their inaugural victory against London Falcon CC. Opting to bat first after winning the toss, Knight Valour CC amassed 144 runs within a shortened 25-over match. In response, London Falcon CC could only manage 79 runs while chasing. Knight Valour CC clinched the match by a margin of 65 runs. Bijeesh (or Bineesh) contributed with over 20 runs, claimed two wickets, executed two challenging catches, and swiftly executed a run-out, earning him the title of Man of the Match. Saturday Man of the Match 5 was Bineesh of Knight Valour CC.
The weekend’s sixth and final Saturday League match was between Phoenix CC and Cygnus CC. Cygnus CC won by six wickets. Jins Alex of Cygnus delivered an outstanding all-round performance, claiming four wickets for just 27 runs and contributing a brisk 44 runs off 37 balls. Saturday Man of the match 6 was Jinx Alex of Cygnus CC who received trophy from match umpire Arun C Nair.

Sunday Matches
The Sunday League matches were scheduled for 28th April. The matches between Epic CC and Redhill Warriors CC, Thunder Boys CC and United Kent CC had to be cancelled because of bad weather.
The first Sunday League match was between Millwall Stars CC and Mallu CC ( Bromley). In a display of resilience and skill, Millwall Cricket Club faced challenging conditions with a wet pitch and weather to post 89 runs. Despite the adversity, Mallu Cricket Club showcased superior performance in bowling and batting, with their captain, Mr Philip Babu, earning the Man of the Match title for his impressive 4-wicket haul. Mallu CC clinched victory with a swift chase, scoring 92 runs in just 10.5 overs, demonstrating a commendable team effort and strategic play. Sunday Man of the Match 1 was Philip Babu of Mallu CC who received trophy from match Umpire Jayaprakash Krishnan.
The second Sunday League match was between Shan Sports Club and United Warriors CC. In this thrilling match, UWCC emerged victorious by 27 runs, with Suresh Muthu Krishnan earning the Man of the Match title for his significant batting contribution of 26 runs. His performance was instrumental in UWCC’s win. Sunday Man of the Match 2 was Suresh Muthu Krishnan of United Warriors receiving the trophy from Ashique Koleth, captain of Shan Sports Club.
