SNGM to celebrate Guru Jayanthi and Onam in East Ham, Croydon, Southall (Free For All)

LONDON July 17: Sree Narayana Guru Mission of UK, based in London, celebrates Sree Narayana Guru’s birthday (Guru Jayanthi), along with Onam, harvest festival of Keralites all over the world, every year.

Sree Narayana Guru Mission will hold celebrations this year at its centres in East Ham, Croydon and Southall. It will be an entirely a “free for all” event where organisers invite people from all walks of the community.

The 170th celebrations will be held on 7th Spetember 2024 from 3pm to 9.30pm at Eastbury School Hall, Barking IG11 9UW. Programmes include classical dances to verses of Guru, drama based in Kumaran Asan’s Leela AtmaRoopan, directed by Vijayakumar Pillai. There will also be talks by guest speakers on Guru’s philosophy, Live music by Vinod Navadhara, Rajesh and Lakshmi. There will also be short story writing competition

SNGM centres in East Ham and Croydon will also be hosting the traditional Onasadya this year. Register in Advance for Onam sadhya for catering purposes. Sree Narayana Guru was a social reformer and saint. Born on 28 August 1855, his birthday is celebrated in the month of “Chingam” in the Malayalam calendar on the day of the “Chathayam” star. The dates vary from year to year. In the year 2024, it will be celebrated on 18 September. Today, Sree Narayana Guru Jayanti is celebrated not just in Kerala, but in other states in India as well as other countries of the world where the Malayalee diaspora has spread.

“This is entirely a “free for all” event where we entertain our members and others, from all walks of the community. This is a podium we utilise to promote local artists, by giving them an opportunity to showcase their talents. There will be variety of cultural entertainments like Dance,Drama,and Musical programme. There will also be prize distributions for the best students of our education centre”, said a press note.
