Inaugural Memorial Carom Tournament Sparks National Interest in Northampton

NORTHAMPTON Dec 29: In a touching tribute to the fathers who shaped their lives, a group of close friends recently hosted the first-ever All-UK Memorial Carom Tournament at the Malabari Restaurant in Northampton. The event, which blended competitive spirit with deep nostalgia, marked a historic milestone as the first tournament of its kind to be held in the town.

The tournament was organized as a collective memorial for the fathers and grandfathers of the founding group:

* Njerlely Poulose (Father of Noble)
* Alappurathu KG Sivasankara Pillai (Father of Anandhu)
* Plathottathil PV Varkey (Father of Jinsu)
* Anickattu Thomas Joseph – “Achayan” (Father of Babu)
* Ernest Dcruz (Father of Arun)
* Karimpanmackal KJ Chacko (Grandfather of Rosbin)

A Nationwide Gathering
What began as a personal tribute quickly grew into a national spectacle. Players traveled from every corner of England to compete, turning the Malabari Restaurant into a vibrant hub of sporting excellence. The massive turnout solidified the event as one of the finest carom gatherings the country has seen in recent years.

The Champions’ Circle
The competition was fierce, with the Thayaham Club ultimately dominating the top tier of the podium:
* Champions: Dharashan and Jayseelan (Thayaham Club)
* Runners-up: Venugopan and Purus (Thayaham Club)
* Third Place: Babu Thomas and Anandhu Sivasankara Pillai (Great Northampton Sports Club)
* Fourth Place: George Varghese and Tony Mannancheril Baby

Community Spirit
Beyond the striker and the board, the event was a celebration of community. The atmosphere was bolstered by the catering of Chai Cafe Northampton, which provided exceptional food that kept the energy high throughout the day.

For the organizers, the success of the day was measured not just in trophies, but in the continuation of their parents’ legacy. By bringing people together through a sport their fathers loved, they ensured that the memory of these noble men continues to shine brightly across the UK.
