India govt warns against unauthorized agents recruiting nurses to New Zealand

NEW DELHI Dec 16: The Indian Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has issued a cautionary advisory against unauthorized nursing recruitment to New Zealand, particularly targeting individuals from Kerala. The warning comes as an increasing number of nurses have been found migrating to New Zealand on visiting visas to enroll in the Competency Assessment Programme and register with the country’s Nursing Council.

These migrations are often facilitated by agents who charge excessive fees for visiting visas, exploiting job aspirants in the process. Many nurses who complete the necessary formalities still face challenges in securing employment in New Zealand, prompting the Ministry to intervene and issue a formal letter to the Resident Commissioners of South Indian states.

The Indian Embassy has further clarified that the nursing staff shortage in New Zealand, which emerged during the COVID-19 pandemic, has been largely resolved with the arrival of nurses from India and the Philippines. As a result, the Embassy urges job seekers to be wary of false promises made by unauthorized agents and to exercise caution when considering such opportunities.
