“Embedded in our culture, Chenda melam is an intrinsic part of Kerala lifestyle. Our goal is to become a team with talented chenda melam players who can perform at the highest level. We welcome men and women of all ages, but we especially encourage girls and boys over 10. The classes will be held in Bishopshalt School, Royal Lane, Uxbridge, UB8 3RF every Tuesday between 6:30 pm and 8:30 pm”, said the organisers.

“As part of our training program, our students go through a series of rigorous rhythm beats, starting from the most basic to the most complex. With our well-designed training modules and proper guidance, everyone can easily learn chenda melam, and our students achieve this level of proficiency in one year of hard work. The Navadhara music center has qualified tutors to guide our students on their journey to becoming well-versed in chenda melam”

“We offer chenda melam courses across the UK and all our students actively participate in various cultural activities conducted by community associations (Onam festivals, UUKMA boat race).

“Religious institutions invite us to take part in their processions and festivals. We are invited to participate in various community activities and street performances by a variety of UK councils and organizations.

“We have had students participate in music shows organized by the Indian embassy in Morocco and the world Malayalee council in the USA in the past. Having the chance to meet and travel with like-minded people is another benefit of being part of this group.

Jayaram, a renowned chenda artist and Malayalam film actor, performed at our Melaperuma show in May, 2019. An ensemble of more than 100 chenda players from Navadhara School of Music, UK, presented an amazing performance for the audience.

“For our students, performing in front of large crowds is a privilege that allows them to showcase their talents and share their culture.

In 2024, we intend to hold a mega show similar to Thrissur pooram, which will surpass Melaperuma show. Wouldn’t it be awesome to be a part of that amazing experience? We invite you to join us to be a part of the most amazing music group in the UK. Join now!
