NIA interrogating Keralite Muhammed Faizal in ISIS case, woman under surveillance

KOCHI May 9: Muhammed Faizal, a native of Karunagapally taken into custody by National Investigation Agency in the case of recruiting youths of Kerala to terrorist organisation ISIS, is being interrogated by a team of high officials.

The officials suspect him of having connection with Riyaz Aboobacker, native of Palakkad, who planned for a terror attack in Kerala. Faizal is the 18th accused in the case.

He was taken into custody from Nedumbassery Airport. Meantime, a woman having connection with Faizal is under the surveillance of the NIA.

Faizal, who was in Doha, reached Kochi yesterday as per the directive of the NIA. The NIA had the other day arraigned three including Faizal. He was later brought to Kochi through an emergency intervention.

The other accused in the case are P A Aboobacker Siddique alias Abu Eesa (28) and Ahamed Arafath, natives of Kasargod.

Riyaz Aboobacker, a native of Palakkad was arrested by the NIA based on details soon after the terror attack in Sri Lanka. The investigation team got the details of Faizal from Riyaz. The NIA had conducted a search at Faizal’s house in Changankulangara.

As he did not get a job, he was staying in his friend’s flat. He studied from fifth to tenth standard in Jeddah and later took his engineering degree from Kollam and later completed fire and safety course from the capital city. He later went to Qatar.

He is suspected to have stayed in Kochi for some time. Riyaz, who is in the custody of the NIA is being questioned. Heads of RAW and military intelligence will question him soon.
