THIRUVANANTHAPURAM July 18: Justice Kamal has opined that there is no need for politics inside the campus. When politicians at top rungs co-exist amiably, such relationships are not found among local politicians inside campuses.
“The students go to college with deadly weapons like machete. Such practices should be stopped for ever,” he said in a talk show of a private TV channel over Maharaja’s College student Abhimanyu’s murder.
Pasha also criticised the police for arresting SDPI leaders instead of arresting the real culprits. “If the leaders are involved, they should be made accused and it is not a right thing to bargain using them. I am not for banning SDPI in the name of this incident. It should be banned if its leaders are proved to be involved in the murder conspiracy,” he said.
The former high court judge said that if the police in Kerala are not able to trace the real culprit, they should hand over the case to some other competent agencies like NIA or CBI. The police need not feel ashamed of it.
Expressing surprise over the police’ delay in arresting Abhimanyu’s murderers, Kamal Pasha said UAPA could be invoked in Abhimanyu’s case as the crime was done with the intention create terror scare in society.
“The above crime comes under the ambit of UAPA. If the police feels that it is necessary, they can use the law. There is no need for legal advice on it. It is the court which will say whether it will stand the test of law. Such strong actions are needed as a deterrent against such crimes,” he added.
