LONDON March 13: India have secured their place in the ICC World Test Championship final against Australia at The Oval, starting on June 7th, after a thrilling last-ball win for New Zealand ended Sri Lanka’s push for a top-two finish.
This will be India’s third visit to The Oval in as many years, after a dominant ODI display last year and a thrilling five-day Test match victory vs. England in 2021.
Australia on the other hand, will be visiting The Oval for the first time since 2019.
Sri Lanka needed to win their series in New Zealand 2-0 and rely on India not winning their fourth and final Test against Australia in Ahmedabad. But a classic knock of 121 not out from New Zealand star Kane Williamson steered New Zealand to a thrilling two-wicket win against Sri Lanka on the final ball of the match in Christchurch.
Australia secured their spot in the final by beating India by nine wickets in Indore last week.
India and Australia will meet in the second WTC final at The Oval in London, starting on 7 June.
New Zealand defeated India in the inaugural WTC decider in 2021.
