LONDON Oct 12: Indian travellers arriving in the United Kingdom will not be required to remain in mandatory 10-day quarantine from October 11. No quarantine is required for Indian travellers to UK those who are fully vaccinated with Covishield or another UK-approved vaccine from 11 October.

From 11th October, Indians travelling to UK and vaccinated with two doses of Covishield vaccine will not have to take a covid-19 test or self-isolate after their arrival in UK. Indian travellers will be considered fully vaccinated if they had taken the second dose of the Covishield vaccine at least 14 days before their arrival in UK.

However, the day on which the second/final dose does was taken will not be counted as one of the 14 days, the government advisory said. The Indian travellers will also have to complete a passenger locator form 48 hours before their arrival in UK.

“India will be added to this list of countries and territories with approved proof of vaccination 4am Monday 11 October. If you arrive in England before that date you must follow the rules for people who are not fully vaccinated. If you arrive after that, you can use a vaccine certificate to prove your vaccination status,” the UK advisory said.

Over possible recognition of Covaxin, the High Commissioner said, “We have to look at each process in terms of each vaccine. In turn, we start with the ones who are recognized by a regulator that includes obviously Covishield,” as quoted by news agency ANI.

Meanwhile, the Indian ministry of health will issue fresh guidelines for travellers coming to India from the United Kingdom as the UK government on Oct 11 amended travel rules for Indians and said people vaccinated with two doses of Covishield will not be required for quarantining. Citing sources, news agency ANI said the order will be issued soon.

The UK government took time to consider Indians double-vaccinated with Covishield as fully vaccinated people. In its new travel rules that came into effect from October 4 onwards, it said it recognises Covishield but not the vaccine certificate given in India. Hence, people vaccinated with Covishield arriving in the UK after October 4 had to undergo 10-day mandatory quarantine.

India took a likewise measure and made quarantine mandatory for passengers coming to India from the UK, while both countries remained engaged in talks over easing the travel restrictions.
